Gold Star spouse Maggie Duskin and her family recently received the surprise of a lifetime when they found out they will be the recipients of a new mortgage-free home in Raleigh!

While Raleigh has awarded several homes to veterans over the last eight years, this will be their first for a Gold Star family recipient.

Maggie Duskin lost her husband, U.S. Army Chief Warrant Officer 2 Michael Duskin, when he was killed while serving in Afghanistan on October 23, 2012. CW2 Mike Duskin first enlisted as a forward observer in the U.S. Army in 1993. Duskin was assigned to Company A, 1st Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Bragg, N.C., and was deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

A mother of 3, Maggie and her 19-year-old daughter Lexie will live at the home in Pulte’s Rutherford community in Fuquay-Varina, just outside of downtown Raleigh. Following in their father’s footsteps, her older sons Nathan and Jacob are currently serving in the Army. Nathan is stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, and is currently a Staff Sergeant (E6), about to make Sergeant First Class (E7). Jacob is currently a Sergeant (E5), promotable to Staff Sergeant (E6), with the First Ranger Battalion in Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah, Georgia.
